Students conducted a project to analyze airborne particulates around their schoolyard, collecting samples at five locations over 48 hours from January 21-23. They observed varying particle densities, with the majority being under 1 mm in size. Findings indicated high particle counts at the playground and near drop-off points due to car usage. Recommendations include relocating drop-off zones, planting trees to act as windbreaks, and improving building placement to enhance air quality, ultimately leading to cleaner air for students.

The Analyses We think the buildings are rather well placed. At location 1 (see map) many parents drop off their children (with car) and we think that is why there are a lot of particles there. We also think that is why there are so many particles at location 3. Location 3 is the little children´s playground and this may be a problem. Our solution is that the parents can drop their children at the parkinglot on the other side of school. Then the playground is protected by a building, so it won´t get so many particles there. Our suggestion is to plant many trees at location 1 to stop the particles. At location 4, we put up a 2 m high windbreakbetween and in front of the buildings. The students canalsouse it as graffiti boards.
Higherbuildingsaround the playground, location 3. We think it would be good if there was a larger distance between the buildings and the roads, and with some trees in between. Location 4, in front of the opening between the houses we will plant trees and bushes. Like a small forest to stop the particles. Plantations with trees and bushes on the roofsof the lower buildings. This will force the wind to go higher, over the trees. All plants will also make more oxygen to the children, better air!
