  2. As an international student, you will quickly find out that studying in the UK differs from studying at home. Factors such as the type of your course, level of study and university location may require you to do things differently than what you are used to.

  3. In the UK, it is common for students to manage their own research and time, instead of being prescribed set work. Coursework is completed in student’s own time and there are numerous exams which tests their knowledge and understanding. Lectures are a large group of students in your year or studying the same module or course. A lecturer often stands in the front of the lecture hall and presents information about a specific part of the course. It is expected that students complete, recommended reading before/after the lecture to make the most of them.

  4. Seminars are classroom-sized groups of students (20-50). Seminars are designed to allow the students to discuss module topics from reading and lectures in greater detail. Often seminars can hold debates or student presentations. Exams usually starts in January and May by all students, however there can be smaller tests given during seminars. Exams can be very stressful, make sure you attend all your lectures and seminars, as you will learn the layout and topics of the exams there, eliminating some of the stress.

  5. Course work also known as written assignments, which can take many forms (such as essays, reports, presentations, etc). A deadline is given to the student for the coursework, alongside the assignment brief, stating the main question and points to cover. Plagiarism means taking someone else ideas or work and presenting it as your own, without crediting the source. It is important all students reference their work properly.
