  7. 50+ INITIATIVE - FOCUS • PRE PENSIONERS / OLDER WORKERS – DIGITAL INCLUSION • Make sure they are digitally included to get/keep them IT literate & more ‘employable’ as active aging charter • ELDERLY / VERY ELDERLY – DIGITAL INCLUSION PLUS INTEGRATED HOME CARE OFFERING • Make sure they are/stay digitally included to reduce HC costs by securing Ambient Assisted Living from the comfort of their homes e.g. e-health, communication, …

  9. 50+ INITIATIVE - OTHER • UNITED KINGDOM= Chelsea Pensioners Cyber Café & Silver Surfers Week (> 1000 ‘internet taster sessions’) • GERMANY = ‘’50+ Middle of Life’ (130k PC’s) & “50+ Internet verbindet” (monthly sessions in 230 training locations) • ITALY = Nonni Su Internet (launch Dec 1st 2006) with students training 50+ & demos in 35 senior centres + Elonex Linux based solution + nationwide roll out in 2007 • SPAIN = Truck Tour to all regions (launch Sept 15th 2006) with demo set up senior home and social care assistant + ViiV PC center of unique ‘independent living’ solution with videoconferencing & wireless monitoring of sensors + pilot : Huesca

Challenges • 3 age groups amongst the 50+ with different needs • Senior but not yet retired • Retired but independent • Retired but dependent • Fear of technology • Underestimation of the benefit (‘for what the hell do I need this’?) • Costs. Problem especially in poorer countries (East) • Varying degrees of intensity of countries’ elderly strategy (e.g. e-health is not a big topic in Eastern Europe)
