  2. Background • Measuring mental well-being • WEMWBS (14 point scale) • ibyD– SOT (Dec 09), SS (June 10) • Aims • baseline prevalence of MWB • gain insights into resilience/social capital.

  3. Methods • Mixed: quantitative (f2f hh), qualitative (fg) • Questionnaire = WEMWBS/demo/explanatory • SOT pilot/re-pilot • Lay researchers • SOT = 5fg + 860 f2f respondents • SS = 6fg + 600 f2f respondents (100 booster).

  11. Discussion • 2 almost identical surveys have: • Added to knowledge of WEMWBS among 2 groups • Information to test consistency of MWB/factors • Information to test usefulness of WEMWBS to inform PH agenda around MWB.

  12. Using WEMWBS to inform the PH agenda • Positive MWB and community safety • feel safe in the home • walking alone after dark • Social interaction and MWB • broadband connectivity • planning application and communal space • Income and MWB • employment (social interactions/networks).

  13. Follow up actions • Social action for health • small grants fund for community groups • community learning champions • Mental well-being at work • supporting employers • Brief intervention for MWB • used in smoking cessation service.
