  2. Memorability The qualities of the work making it easy to remember and/or worth remembering. Apply: What examples can you find in The Wizard of Oz that demonstrate it is easy to remember? What examples can you find that says The Wizard of Oz is worth remembering? Why is it worth remembering?

  3. Theme(s) Theme is a message or central idea the story tries to convey to its audience. Themes within a classic work will be themes that are universal theme(s); they are common and are understood by a wide audience, reaching different groups of people (cross culture). Apply: What examples can you find in The Wizard of Oz that are messages to the audience? What examples can you find that show The Wizard of Oz reaching different cultures, generations? What messages do you get were relevant during it’s release in 1939 and today in 2014?

  4. Style Style is all about what is within the work that makes it: stand out to be considered the best of its kind used as an example of excellence groundbreaking and/or a pioneer of its medium. Apply: What examples can you find in The Wizard of Oz that make it the best of its kind? What examples can you find that show The Wizard of Oz is used as an example of excellence? What groundbreaking techniques were used? How is it seen as a pioneer of the film world?

  5. Critical Acceptance Critical acceptance allows for standards to be established for a work and leads to a common understanding of a quality of excellence. Apply: Why would it be important for a film like The Wizard of Oz to be critically accepted? Are there benefits? What do the critics say about the film? What makes it stand out?

  6. Timelessness Timelessness of a work demonstrates that the work is valid over a span of time or generations of people; it is relatable and understood by many and isn’t affected by the change in time.
