  2. Common Street Drugs • Marihuana • Steroids • Club drugs (RAVE Parties) • Ecstasy, Meth., PCP, MDA, GHB • Cocaine • Snorted, injected or smoked (crack) • Heroin • Injected or smoked.

  3. METHAMPHETAMINE • CNS Stimulant • Easy to use! • Snort, Inject (Bang), Smoke, Swallow, Hoop • Effects 8-12 hours • Highly addictive • “Crystal, Jib, Shards”

  4. History • Synthesized from amphetamine in 1887. • Used during the war. • Became known as Speed. • Common among Bikers • Was more common in Eastern/Central Canada • Followed the RAVE/Club Drug scene • Mixed with other drugs – pure crystal

  5. Prevalence of Crystal • Most widely used in the world after Cannabis • Users #’s equal Cocaine & Heroin use worldwide together • No boundaries > upper class, lower class, street, homeless, gay, youth, middle age, professionals, Ravers, clubbers, workplace, schools, universities, colleges, etc.

  6. Social Consequences • Crime • systemic, economic, psycho-pharmacological • Violence • Accidents • Isolation from friends, family • Loss of employment, loss of family, welfare, homelessness • Abuse/Neglect to spouse, children
