  2. Hueis the term for the pure spectrum colors which appear in a rainbow or the Primary Color Wheel. Hues are commonly referred to by the "color names” – yellow, orange, red, violet (or purple), blue, and green. The Primary Color Wheel is made up of twelve colors which progress around the wheel in gradual increments.

  3. Primary Color Wheel Primary Colors (A): Yellow, Blue and Red These three Primary Colors are blended together to produce other colors called Secondary Colors (B): • Yellow + Red = Orange • Red + Blue = Violet (or Purple) • Blue + Yellow = Green When you combine a Primary Color with a Secondary Color, you produce a Tertiary Color(C). Some of these include: • Red + Orange = Red Orange • Yellow + Green = Yellow Green • Red + Violet (Purple) = Red Violet A C C B B C C A A C C B

  6. Wassily Kandinsky 1866-1944 Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian painter who is considered to be the founder of abstract art. • His parents were musicians. As a child he learned to play the piano and Cello. He also studied drawing in his childhood. • He went to college to become a lawyer at the request of his family. One day, at the age of 30, he abruptly left his profession in Russia and went to Germany to study art. He had went to an art show in France where he saw a painting that inspired him to become an artist. • In the early 1900’s, he began to research the relationship between music and color. Music and Painting go hand-in-hand and go very nicely together. • He studied the ways in which colors and shapes work together. He related colors to sounds, tastes, movements and feelings, and concentrated on the theme of circles, squares and triangles.

  7. Abstract Art Abstract Art does not represent things in the natural/real world – it represents lines, colors or shapes.

  8. Concentric Cirlcles Concentric Circles is a bunch of circles that share the same center. The larger circle completely surrounds the smaller circle, or a bulls eye.

  9. Producing Emotion with Music “ Lend your ears to music, open your eyes to painting, and... stop thinking!” Kandinsky Listen to different classical music • What emotion? happy, sad, angry, furious, funny? • what colors convey that emotion?
