  3. HELLO Welcome to our Health Class, we’re so very glad you are here! My name is MrsKoleno and Miss Hawksworth We are going to have a great time!!

  4. The First Day of Health ClassWhat do I need to know?

  5. Information about the Class • If you complete the First Aid course requirements, you will be given a certification card in First Aid/CPR/AED for Schools and Community This is also a half credit class.

  6. Sign in and out and use the yellow board… NO need to ask permission!

  7. Get to know you mixer On the teacher’s cue, you will go find someone you don’t know , exchange names and tell each other something interesting about yourself. Examples may be hobbies, something you did exciting over the summer break, places you have visited, etc. Continue on the teacher’s cue until you have met at least three people. Be prepared to share what you have learned about the people you met!

  8. Expectations for the teachers Write down three or four things you expect from us. Share your list with another person. Compile a class list As a class let’s vote on the top 5 most important expectations students have of their teachers.

Additional Expectations: • Be ready when the bell rings • Copy the objectives for the lesson (Explain!) • Participate or Use the pass option (Explain!) • Make up your work ASAP • If you are going to get a certification, you need to know what you’re doing, so you need to participate in hands on work

  14. Grading Policy • 50% =In class work/ participation/homework • There will be an assigned power point presentation that will be factored in as 4 quizzes • 25% = Quizzes • 25% = Final

  15. Homework/ In Class Policy • You need to hand in your work when it is due. • If you are late, I will give you ½ credit for the day after the assignment is due, after that it will be a 0, unless you are absent.

  16. Missing Class • If you miss class, it is your responsibility to get your work. • You can email me or make arrangements to make up your work during the VIP lunch • You may also check my website

  20. Injuries to Muscles, Bone and Joints Sudden Illness Poisoning Heat and Cold Emergencies Special Emergencies and Situations Asthma Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injectors

  21. The elective class will try to go down to the Jersey Shore Middle school to teach 4,5 grade students First Aid skills.

  23. Sexuality Education (11th grade) • Definition of Sexuality • Female and Male Reproductive System • Child Birth and Parenthood • STI/STD’s • Contraceptives • Sexual Harassment

  24. 11th grade class will be doing a unit in Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Awareness. • Topics include: • What are drugs? • Drug Categories • Use and misuse of drugs • Advertising and marketing techniques used to make drugs appealing • What is BAC.
