  1. K - 3 Formative Assessment Project "Kids First, New Mexico Wins!"

  2. Project Overview • Formative assessments delivered via a web based subscription service (Amplify – formerly Wireless Generation)providing critical data for progress monitoring in reading. "Kids First, New Mexico Wins!"

Year One Accomplishments The New Mexico Formative Assessment (NMFAS) served the following in the 2012-13 school year: • 87 Districts and Charters • 231 Schools • Approximately 42,000 students in grades k-3 • Distribution of participating schools reaches every geographic region in New Mexico "Kids First, New Mexico Wins!"

More Year One Accomplishments Amplify Insight tools provide data analysis reports to educators and families: • Aggregate Reports • 79 LEAs (91%) have accessed the reports • 26,700 reports have been generated with an average of 116 per school • Home Connect Letters • 69 LEAs (79%) have utilized the Home Connect Letters for Parents in English and Spanish "Kids First, New Mexico Wins!"

  5. Professional Development Accomplishments 1. DIBELS Next Assessment Administration • 31 regional “Training of Trainers” Sessions • 23 one-day trainings for current DIBELS users • 8 two-day trainings for schools new to DIBELS • Principal/Instructional Leaders Data Analysis Sessions • 20 sessionscomprised of 13 in-person regional trainings and 7 webinar trainings. "Kids First, New Mexico Wins!"

  6. More Professional Development Accomplishments 3. Master Trainer Series • 1 three day training for Master Trainers • 4. Webinar Sessions • 3 program introduction webinars • 2 “Bust Reading Vocabulary” Webinars • 5. Onsite Visits • 51 visits conducted with school and/or district staff "Kids First, New Mexico Wins!"

Lessons Learned • A few districts implemented the NMFAS for limited grades instead of the full k-3 range offered by the program • Solution to be implemented in year two: • Participation Form outlined expectation that all participating districts would implement for K-3 • Reports will show data by school and grade • Direct Outreach will be conducted for schools identified in reports as having low usage for particular grades as well as low usage in general "Kids First, New Mexico Wins!"

More Lessons Learned • Progress Monitoring for students below benchmark did not occur as often as recommended. • Solution to be implemented in year two: • Participation Form outlined the expectation that all participating districts would progress monitor “well Below Benchmark” students once every four weeks. • Joint PED and Amplify Webinars will provide training on the value and utility of progress monitoring • Amplify will reinforce the value and utility of progress monitoring through outreach, training, and communication. "Kids First, New Mexico Wins!"

  9. Year Two • Amplify will provide K- 3 Formative Assessment for current LEAs and Schools but will expand its use and the focus of training. • More LEAs and schools • Shift to Data Analysis as Training Focus • More onsite training support • Expand the use of the Small Group Tool • Tool for educators to create small instructional groups "Kids First, New Mexico Wins!"
