Library of Alexandria. Alex Williams. Location. Was built in Brucheion (the Royal Quarter) adjacent to the musaeum. The structure was built either between 323-283 BC (reign of Ptolemy I soter) or between 283-246 BC (reign of Ptolemy II).

  1. Library of Alexandria Alex Williams

  2. Location • Was built in Brucheion (the Royal Quarter) adjacent to the musaeum. • The structure was built either between 323-283 BC (reign of Ptolemy I soter) or between 283-246 BC (reign of Ptolemy II). • The structure does not exist anymore and was burnt down "accidently" by Julius Caesar.

  3. Purpose • The structure was organized and built by Demetrius of Phaleron, a student of Aristotle. • The Library was built to show the wealth of Egypt, and aid the ruler of Egypt. • The Library was used as a Library, and a large world knowledge archive. Also housed some very well known scholars and their families.

  4. Uniqueness • It was one of the first and biggest collections of written knowledge in one place • It took about 7-10 years to construct • The library used the style of Aristotle's Lyceum

  5. Ancient Foresight • There are some similar structures today. • The main one is the Library of Congress. • The Library of Alexandria was very ancient, and very wonderful, but it was not one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World
