  4. Public Works Department Mission • The Department of Public Works, through its employees, provides for the delivery of high quality, cost-effective, efficient, and safe services involving public infrastructure and facilities to enhance the quality of life in Lawton.

  5. What is Public Works? • The term Public Works describes a broad category of infrastructure projects and services, financed and constructed by municipal government, to support recreational, employment, and health and safety uses in the greater community. For Lawton, this includes public transport infrastructure (roads, bridges, and traffic control devices), public spaces (rights-of-way and easements), public services (solid waste disposal, flood control, and water quality protection), and other, usually long-term, physical assets and facilities (equipment and electronic maintenance).

Stormwater Management • The City of Lawton is required by the EPA through ODEQ to regulate stormwater discharges from its municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4). • The EPA outlines minimum control measures that the city must implement in its stormwater management program. These measures, implemented together, are expected to significantly reduce pollutants discharged from the storm sewer system.
