  2. The African Diaspora is the spreading of African people and culture around the world.

  3. Food • African culture shows up in what Americans eat. Gumbo Black-eyed Peas Sorghum Watermelon Sweet Potatoes

Music • Music was an important aspect of almost every part of African life. • Enslaved Africans used music to remind them of their homeland. • American music is influenced by African music. • Jazz, blues, rap, and rock and roll are music genres influenced by African music. • Gospel music is also influenced by African music.

  5. Drums provided the back beat of African music. The banjo is of African origin.

  6. Dance • Africans used dance in important events because they felt that dance allowed the spirits to express themselves. • They used dance to celebrate important events like marriages and deaths.

  7. Art African art includes jewelry making, masks, paintings, sculpture, pottery, batik and wood carvings.
