  1. Do you know your target grade? Ethics & ValuesConfidentiality LO: To recap on the key issues we looked at last term: Ethics/ Values/ Confidentiality/ Disclosure. To show your understanding of these key issues by completing your P3 booklet on confidentiality in a health and social care setting. Starter: Why is confidentiality an important core value in the workplace ? Watch the clip to help you......

  2. Ethical or not? 1 On what ground would medical practitioners justify this advert? 2 Now think about what types of people may not agree with this advert. 3 Are teenagers guaranteed confidentiality if they seek contraceptive advice in the UK?

  3. Ethics Ethics are moral principles. Sometimes health and social care workers have to make decisions that are difficult and have to look for the code of conduct or CVB to find the correct way to deal with the situation. When facing a moral decision, care workers must work to the principles set out for them and not make decisions based on emotions or own views.

  4. Ethical Considerations These considerations include; • Prolonging a persons life against their will • Ending the life of a service user • Carrying out abortions • Continuing to treat those that harm themselves • Detaining a person against their will for protection.

  5. Ethical Values • Social Justice • A person centred approach • Right to life • Honesty • Empathy • Confidentiality .

  6. Independent Assessment Task (P3) 1 Explain what is meant by ethics 2 Create a presentation that explains why ethical considerations are important in heath and social care settings. You must explain and discuss each of the following: Social Justice/ Right to life / Individual care (person centered)/ Honesty / Empathy /C confidentiality Use images and examples to help you. Extension for M1 • Add a slide which discusses how applying these ethical values could be difficult and barriers which could affect them being applied • Evaluate the impact of not applying these values.

  7. Confidentiality Confidentiality is not just a right of patients and service users but a responsibility of all Health and Social Care workers. .

  8. Assessment Task (P3, M3,D1) Make a booklet for staff in a hospital explaining; • What confidentiality is • Why it is important? • The types of information that is confidential • What is a disclosure? • When might it be necessary to breach confidentiality? • What are the consequences of breaking confidentiality without good reason? • What is the data protection act?

NB: What you should have completed: P1 • Key words task: Equality, Stereotype, Diversity and Discrimination • 3 Posters on Political, Social & Biological factors which contribute to a diverse society. • An explanation of Dyslexia and downs syndrome and how these conditions affect people in their everyday life. P2 – A list and explanation of the Individual rights of people who use care services. Choose one of the following and give an example of how each right could be applied in the setting. • A doctors surgery • A care home for the elderly P2Define: Rights Respect & dignity (book P 38/ 39) P3 –Ethics task – slide 6
