Objectives • For participants to • Understand the importance & relevance of observations and the underlying physiology • Be able to recognise & interpret abnormal observations • To be able to communicate effectively to the right people at the right time • To feel confident in recognising & managing a deteriorating patient • To facilitate teamwork within the multidisciplinary team • To enable nurses, doctors & physiotherapists to develop management plans together

  5. Problems encountered • The aim was for the course to be interdisciplinary – Nurses attend. Only one doctor so far. • I set up a team of dedicated speakers/trainers but some are not always available • Particularly difficult to find trainers for the scenarios among this group. • Attendees do not complete pre reading so are not as actively involved

  6. Positives • Good feedback from attendees • High attendance numbers • Instigates thought and discussion • Those who start off anxious about taking part in scenarios often feel ok afterwards

  7. Future plan • Change format to online learning followed by attendance at 3 hour session including scenarios • To encourage more active participation by attendees by necessary pre learning requirements • Need less trainers per course. • May be able to run more frequently
