Who are we? • Dan Campbell- Director of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) • Jeanne Campbell- Volunteer Coordinator and Curriculum Committee of OLLI at USCB • OLLI at USCB (founded 1991) Three offices and classes in four locations 1,275 members 450 classes offered annually 10,000 annual enrollments

  3. Why this session? • Key to our success is our curriculum • Important to keep it fresh • Always looking for new ideas and instructors • Impressed by programs offered by other lifelong learning organizations • We have “assets” we are willing to share

  4. Objective for this session • Explore targets of opportunity for sharing program resources • Identify an action plan to make this happen this coming year

  5. Session Plan 15 Minutes Ideas to get your creative juices flowing 45 Minutes Brainstorming- great programming ideas that can be shared 30 Minutes Action Plan for next steps to develop great ideas into reality

  6. To Get Your Creative Juices Flowing…Possibilities • EXCHANGES • Instructor Exchanges • How about? Sending outstanding instructors to another institute E.g. --Dynamic history instructor- specialty Civil War or --Retired foreign service officer/university professor specialty is African literature In exchange we would host instructors from other organizations.

  7. To Get Your Creative Juices Flowing…Possibilities • EXCHANGES (cont.) B. Member Exchanges How about? Sending a group of members to another institute for a dynamic program. What is your best? Take advantage of local sites E.g. Beaufort (beaches of Hilton Head, ecology of the Lowcountry, Gullah culture, Savannah, etc.)

  8. To Get Your Creative Juices Flowing…Possibilities II. Shared Programs Targets of opportunity- examples --Retired foreign service officer, “Islam and the West: the Historical Roots of a Conflict” --“The South Carolina State Constitution Is it Time to Amend?”

Joint Trips --Civil War Adventures e.g. Sherman’s March to the Sea --Eco Tours (ACE Basin) • Host Destinations, E.g. -- Lowcountry, barrier islands, Penn Center, Hilton Head Island, City of Beaufort (300th anniversary) -- What does your area have to share?

Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor From Florida to North Carolina • Multiple programs on same topic or theme over a period of time, e.g. Sherman’s March C. ACE Basin- ecology

  11. To Get Your Creative Juices Flowing…Possibilities V. Communication Vehicles for Sharing Opportunities --Host Southeastern Region web site or Listserv to share program ideas (or, make it sub-set of the OLLI National Resource Center site at USM).
