  1. Basketball Junkie A memoir by Chris Herren and Bill Reynolds

  2. Summary • Chris Herren was a future NBA star. But his dreams were crushed. An addiction that not only end his basketball career but also separated him from his family. He could function if he did not get his medicine, heroin. Herren’s addiction began in high school where he started to use drugs and became an alcoholic. The basketball star was born in Fall Rivers and was the hero for Durfee high school.

  3. Interesting Passage • In one of the chapters of the Basketball Junkie Chris talked about how much pressure it was being a basketball star, because everybody expected so much out him. I could related to this because when I started to play baseball I was very good and there was to attention towards me. But as I developed over the years, suddenly the attention started to come. You see, if somebody notices that you’re doing something that they can’t do, you get some attention and that’s how it was for Chris and that’s how it is for me.

  4. Recommendation • The Basketball Junkie was an interesting and exciting memoir to read. It’s sad to understand what Chris went through during his high school years. I strongly recommend this book to teenagers because you’ll experience situations in your life like Chris did and I’m sure after reading this book you’ll handle those situations correctly.
