Broward MPO’s Mission “The mission of the Broward MPO is to influence the expenditure of federal and state funds to provide a regional transportation system that ensures the safe and efficient mobility of people and goods, optimizes transit opportunities, and enhances our community’s environmental and economic well-being.” www.browardmpo.org

Broward MPO’s Vision “Transform transportation in Broward County to achieve optimum mobility with emphasis on mass transit while promoting economic vitality, protecting the environment, and  enhancing quality of life.” (2035 Broward Transformation Long Range Transportation Plan) www.browardmpo.org

What is the Broward MPO? 19 Member Board: • 14 - Largest Cities (Census population). • 3 - County Commissioners. • 1 - School Board. • 1 - South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA). • 18 Alternates. Three (3) Advisory Boards: • Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC). • Community Involvement Roundtable (CIR). • Broward County Coordinating Board (BCCB). www.browardmpo.org

Roles and Responsibilities of the MPO • A forum for interagency coordination and public input in to funding decisions. • Federally mandated to oversee the expenditure of federal funds. • Sponsors and conducts transportation studies. • Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). • Prepares Business Plan (UPWP). • Prepares Long-range Transportation Plan (2035 LRTP). • 2040 LRTP Update Underway www.browardmpo.org

  6. Roles and Responsibilities of the MPO Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) • 20 year horizon. • Projects based on input submitted by city, county, and state. • Updated every five (5) years. • Can be amended. • Cost feasible. • Extensive public outreach. www.browardmpo.org

Roles and Responsibilities of the MPO Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) • Comprehensive list of funded projects. • Subset of the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). • Includes the following projects: • Transit. • Pedestrian & Bicycle. • Roadways. • Commuter rail. • Aviation & Seaport. • Monitors and tracks key projects to ensure efficient project implementation. www.browardmpo.org
