  3. Jane Austen • Born: 1775 in England • Lived: most of her life in her father’s Hampshire vicarage and then moved to Bath • Wrote: Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, Persuasion, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, and a short novella that was never finished.

  4. William Shakespeare • Born: 1564 in Stratford-Upon-Avon • Lived: in England, worked mostly in London • Wrote: • Plays -the most famous are: Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Julius Caesar, A Midsummer Night’s Dream • 154 Sonnets

  5. Charles Dickens • Born: 1812 • Lived: in England • Wrote: David Copperfield, A Christmas Carol, Bleak House, A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, Hard Times, The Pickwick Papers, Nicholas Nickleby

  6. William Wordsworth • Born: 1770 • Lived: in England • Wrote: mainly poetry, including: “Intimations of Immortality”, “An Evening Walk”, “Upon Westminster Bridge”, and a collection of poems in Lyrical Ballads; also an essayist and critic
