  4. David Beckham. David Robert Joseph Beckham was born in London on May 2nd 1974. He plays football for Manchester United and is captain of both Manchester and England. Fans love Beckham and call him the “Golden Boy of English Football”. He is also famous for his hair-styles which change very often. Beckham is married to Victoria Adams – one of the Spice Girls. They have two sons, Brooklyn and Romeo, and they are favourite stars of the British press. The Beckhams live in Cheshire, not too far away from Manchester United’s home ground.

  6. Kate Moss. Kate to famous as a young, skinny chain smoker from Croydon in London. Like Christy Turlington, she has worked for Calvin Klein and many other fashion designers. She likes wearing Prada shoes, Hermes's accessories and clothes by John Galliano and Alexander McQueen, but her real passion is expensive jewellery.

  9. Linda Evangelista. Many people say that Linda Evangelista is the most professional model around. On the catwalk she has worked for Gucci and Chanel and also signed a deal with Yardley cosmetics.

  12. Benny Hill. The man called the “Master Comic”, Benny Hill, was born Alfred Hawthorn Hill in Southampton on the 21st January, 1924. Alfred or “Alfie”, as he was affectionately called, came from a family that had links with the circus and this is probably what started his fascination with show business and in particular with comedy. When he was a teenager, Benny worked as a clerk, a shop assistant, and a milkman, but after moving to London in 1942 he got his first job in the entertainment business as an assistant stage manager.

  13. After a lot of theatre work and a stint as a presenter of a talent show, Benny had some lucky breaks. In 1955 the BBC gave him his own show, which started his television career. Benny’s particular brand of comedy was slapstick and full of cheek and innuendo. This made him very popular, especially in countries like Japan and Russia. Although he died in 1992, worldwide he is as popular now as he was during the 1970s.

  15. The Beatles. The Beatles were the most famous pop group of the 1960s. Their music was not only popular in Britain, but all over the world. Members of the band were John Lennon, Ringo Starr, George Harrison and Paul McCartney. They were working-class boys from Liverpool. Some well-know songs by the Beatles are “Yesterday”, “Strawberry Fields Forever”, “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” and “Michelle Ma Belle”. They also starred in two films, “A Hard Day’s Night” in 1964 and “Help!” in 1965. John Lennon met Paul McCartney in 1955 and they started the Beatles in 1960. John Lennon was shot in New York outside his own house on December 8, 1980. George Harrison died on November 29, 2001, at the age of 58.
