Learn how to solve one-step equations with the variable X in this comprehensive guide. We’ll walk you through the process step-by-step, starting with identifying the type of mathematical operation involved. By recognizing whether you need to apply addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division, you can confidently work through equations like X + 2 = 5. We’ll explain how to isolate X using opposite operations and provide practice problems to reinforce your understanding. Remember to submit your work with your name and date for credit!

Taking it One Step at a Time…. Solving One-Step Equations using the Variable X.
Step One: Directions: Solve for X. X + 2 = 5Q: First ask yourself….what kind of math do I see…. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division?
Step Two: Q: Now ask yourself….what is the opposite of addition?
A: Subtraction You will use subtraction to solve for X.
Step Three: Q: Who moves through subtraction in X + 2 = 5? What makes sense? Move X or 2?
A: Move 2 so you can solve for X. Reminder: To solve for X, you must get X by itself. Therefore moving 2 makes sense.
Step Four: Solve for X. Use Subtraction and move 2. 5 minus 2 equals 3. X = 3 Example: X + 2 = 5 -2 -2 X = 3
Solution: Solve for X. X + 2 = 5 X = 3
Your Turn: Directions: Solve for X. X + 3 = 5 You may go back and look at each slide. Your work needs to be clear and follow proper technique as illustrated in Step Four. Please turn in your problem to get credit for this exercise. Don’t forget your name and the date!!
