  3. “Extinction” of behavior withoutreinforcement and with consequences. Good Job! Behavior is maintained with reinforcements like verbal approval, smiles, thumbs up, and high grades. A+

  7. The Behavioral Approach Positive focus to bring about change Provides incentives for behavior that is not initially intrinsic. Negative consequences might be necessary. Positive image is increased with the change. Observation provides opportunities to encourage positive behavior.

  9. -Observe responses and the situations under which they occur. - Set criteria for when form, frequency, duration, and intensity. -Make preferred tasks contingent on the desired behavior (Activity Reinforcement). -Use social (praise & attention, soft voice with undesirable behavior) *Balance the behavior not the child that is inappropriate with students’ responsibility and consequences for poor choices.

  10. Edible reinforcers increase students’ desired behavior by 50%! (ex. T R E A T erase letters as students get louder or argue etc., if it is all erased then no treat. Works great for a difficult sub job  ) Don’t forget to ask about food allergies. Keep children’s health, nutrition, and appetites in mind.

  11. Tangible Reinforcement through trinkets etc. is it “bribery, materialistic, and manipulative?” Are grades and praise “intrinsic motivators” for learning? Tokens, points, and smiley faces to earn things from a Friday store or free choice activity works well. Have the students earn cards for a collection.
