Innovative Insulation Design for Thermal Challenge: Emily and Amina's Polar Bottle

In this project, Emily and Amina tackle the thermal insulation challenge using a Polar Bottle. Their design incorporates various insulation materials, including Styrofoam for the walls, bubble wrap for the can, and a plastic bag for added waterproofing. They use duct tape to reinforce the structure and ensure durability. Step-by-step construction involves measuring, cutting, and assembling components, followed by securing the insulation. This creative approach aims to effectively maintain temperature and demonstrates practical use of commonly available materials in engineering challenges.

  1. Can Challenge Emily and Amina The Silver Demon

  2. Materials

  3. Polar Bottle • Because Polar bottles are advertised as insulators

  4. Plastic Bag • Waterproof • Would create space between the water and the container • Some form of a bag was used by last years winners.

  5. Duct tape • To cover the container in a material that will stay in place • Durable design • Ability to keep things together • Thought it was a good insulator • The former winners used duct tape in their design

  6. Styrofoam • Good insulator • Light weight • Good material to make walls of container

  7. Bubble Wrap • Easy to obtain • Contains air, which is an insulator

  8. Tools Hot Glue Gun Hand Saw Sharpie Box cutter

  9. Procedure of Construction 1. Measure sides on sheet of Styrofoam 2. Cut Styrofoam with a box cutter 3. Hot Glue sides together 4. Duct tape outside 5. Create hole in lid for thermometer and then attach lid 6. Attach plastic bag

  10. Measured sides on sheets of Styrofoam

  11. Cut Styrofoam with box cutter and saw

  12. Hot glued sides together

  13. Duct taped outside

  14. Put a hole in the lid and attach

  15. Attach plastic bag

  16. Design On the outside: • The walls are made of Styrofoam • Edges hot glued together • Duct tape reinforced all around container On the Inside • Bubble Wrap around can • Can in Polar Bottle Bag
