1.2 Probability and Odds • Probability is the mathematical likelihood of something happening. • Eg. There is a 50% chance of getting heads when flipping a coin. • It is also the relation that compares the number of possible successful outcomes to the total number of possible outcomes. • Probability can be expressed as a percent, a decimal, a fraction and in words.

Probability and Odds • Odds are a ratio that compares the number of possible successful outcomes to the number of possible unsuccessful outcomes.Usually expressed as a fraction. • Eg. If 1 in 10 cups of coffee at Tim Horton’s is a winner, your odds of winning are 1:9, this is read as one to nine. This is because for every 1 winner, there are 9 that do not win.
