Franklin School District Goals & Updates • Goal I: Research and provide professional learning opportunities for STEM education so educators have the resources and knowledge to provide STEM experiences to all students. • Update: Professional development provided to teachers – speakers, in-house training with grade level representatives • Goal II: Research and develop STEM centric lessons and units aligned with CCSS, NGSS, and FSD curriculum across disciplines to provide STEM education for all students. • Update: Grade level representatives developed a lesson for their team to start the implementation in their schools • Goal III: Establish and maintain partnerships with local STEM businesses, industries and higher education to provide STEM opportunities for teachers and students. Update: Developing iDesign robotics curriculum at FMS with iRobot's Lisa Freed, FMS tour of Water Treatment Facility, Speakers @FMS & FHS from STEM careers • Goal IV: Increase STEM experiences and support curricular and extra curricular STEM opportunities. • Update: Implementing STEM lessons, increasing STEM awareness district-wide, FHS science field trip

  9. Goal 2: Research and Develop STEM centric lessons... Teacher work days – 3 groups of teachers were provided a full day to investigate the NGSS, experience STEM activities, and develop a lesson plan to take back to their teams Warm up – Design Challenge – make a cup from 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper!

  11. Goal 3: Establish and maintain partnerships... The STEM team at the Franklin Middle School is working with Lisa Freed from iRobot to develop the iDesign curriculum for robotics

  12. Goal 4: Increase STEM experiences... FHS students went to Seacoast Science Center as a reward for scoring proficient or higher on 2013 Science NECAP tests

  13. Goal 4: Increase STEM experiences... Early Release Activities: Teachers took their STEM training back to their schools to share with their fellow faculty members.
