  1. Cele o mie de insule Un lant de insule de-a lungul granitei de est americo-canadiene Insulele care apartin Canadei sunt in provincia Ontario, iar cele care apartin SUA tin de statul New York. In total, sunt 1.865 de insule, marimea lor variand de la peste 100 km² la dimensiuni atat de mici incat nu pot fi ocupate decat de o singura casa sau nici nu sunt ocupate, servind drept refugiu pasarilor migratoare. Numarul insulelor a fost determinat in baza urmatorului criteriu: o insula trebuie sa se mentina deasupra apei timp de 365 de zile pe an, sa aiba o suprafata de peste 1 m2 si sa aiba cel putin un copac care creste pe ea….
