  3. Living Worship • A Worshipping Person is willing to surrender his own agenda in order to fully follow God. Eric Liddell 1938

  4. Living Worship Matthew 10:37-39 37 The person who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; the person who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. 39 Anyone finding his life will lose it, and anyone losing his life because of Me will find it.

  5. Living Worship What are you afraid that God might ask you to give up in your life?”

  6. Daily Worship The practice of daily worship involves two things: spending time with God in order to recognize and hear His voice, and obeying each day what we hear God saying.

  7. Daily Worship When we spend time each day in Bible reading and prayer, we train ourselves to recognize and hear God’s voice. Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, He got up, went out, and made His way to a deserted place. And He was praying there.

  8. Relational Bible Reading – Meeting God in His Word Psalm 27:8 (HCSB) 8  My heart says ⌊this⌋ about You, “You are to seek My face.” LORD, I will seek Your face.

  9. Relational Bible Reading Practices • Ask questions • Express ‘wows” in response to what we just read! • Respond in “amazement” to a particular character’s actions. • Confess “right then” that you aren’t doing what you are reading about but would love God to give you a “want to.” • Say “Thank you!”

  10. Listening Prayer – Practicing Solitude • Quite your spirit– Psalm 131:2 • Resist the enemy – James 4:7 • Invite God’s Presence – Psalm 70:1 • Open your heart to God – Psalm 139: 23-24 • Ask God to communicate to you – 1 Samuel 3:9-10 • Listen patiently– Psalm 62:1 & 46:10

  11. Daily Worship In addition to spending time with God each day in Bible reading and prayer, daily worship involves living out what we hear God saying. Luke 11:28 He said, “Even more, those who hear the word of God and keep it are blessed!”

  12. Discuss What are some things that keep us from worshiping God daily? What are some practical things we can do to help us live in daily worship?

  13. The Heart of Worship Genesis 4:3-5 (HCSB) 3  In the course of time Cain presented some of the land’s produce as an offering to the LORD. 4  And Abel also presented ⌊an offering⌋—some of the firstborn of his flock and their fat portions. The LORD had regard for Abel and his offering, 5  but He did not have regard for Cain and his offering. Cain was furious, and he looked despondent.

  14. Cain’s Offering Did God reject the man because of the type of offering he brought? Or, did God reject the offering because of the type of man that brought it?

  15. Cain’s Offering Genesis 4:6-7 (HCSB) 6  Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you furious? And why do you look despondent? 7  If you do what is right, won’t you be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”

  16. What does the Lord require? Micah 6:6-8 (HCSB) 6  What should I bring before the LORD when I come to bow before God on high? Should I come before Him with burnt offerings, with year-old calves? 7  Would the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams or with ten thousand streams of oil? Should I give my firstborn for my transgression, the child of my body for my own sin? 8  Mankind, He has told you what is good and what it is the LORD requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.

  17. Abel’s Offering Hebrews 11:4 (HCSB) 4  By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain ⌊did⌋. By faith he was approved as a righteous man, because God approved his gifts, and even though he is dead, he still speaks through his faith.

  19. Celebrating Worship Worship celebration happens when Christians gather together to experience God’s presence and celebrate who He is and what He has done.

  20. Discuss In Your Group • What are you afraid that God might ask you to give up? • What are some things that keep you from worshiping God daily? • What are some ways that you can make sure that your heart is right for worship? • How can you participate more fully in worship celebration?
