Since 2007, BC Ferries has introduced eight new ships into its fleet, including three of the largest double-ended ferries worldwide. Most of these vessels were built by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft shipyard in Germany, with one ship capable of reaching 39 km/h. The fleet expansion was strategically timed for the Olympics and aligns with BC Ferries' commitment to sustainability, as they are considering operating the new ships on liquefied natural gas. Each vessel can carry 145 vehicles and 600 passengers, powered by robust MaK engines.
