  1. An app for CERN people Dan Noyes CAPPS meeting 22 November 2013

  2. Research • Interviews and surveys during CERN web redesign • Informal interviews in R1, observation • In-depth interviews with 9 CERN people

  3. Research Interviews and surveys for CERN web redesign: • 2500 public responses, 900 from CERN people

  4. Research - interviews People were asked to record 5-6 times per day: • Where are you? • What are you doing? • What devices are around you? • What will you be doing next? Diaries formed basis of a structured interview.

  5. Problems • Too much information, too many platforms • Information not connected • Too much email • Information isn’t available where it is needed • Notifications, keeping up • Newcomers find it especially difficult

  6. Insights • Desire for ‘an app that could connect things’ • Laptop usage high • Mobile phone use for work tasks low • Desire to personalise • Demand for easier access to practical information – shuttle times, menus, service info

  7. Demo Prototype #1: Arc
