  2. LAUREL MIDDLE SCHOOL (2008-2009) • GRADE 7: 157 STUDENTS • GRADE 8: 172 STUDENTS • TOTAL: 329 STUDENTS • WHITE: 67.2% • AFRICAN AMERICAN: 26.1% • LOW-INCOME: 46.8% • SPECIAL EDUATION: 13.1%

  3. LMS FELL BELOW THE TARGET FOR AYP 2008-2009

  4. GOAL A: All students will meet or exceed challenging state standards for students in Math. • Objective: 71% of grade 7 students and 60% of grade 8 students will meet or exceed the state standards as measured by the DSTP in Math. • DATA: 52.2% Grade 7 • DATA: 55.2% Grade 8 • The objectives were NOT met.

Dept. of Education: Focus Monitoring Report • 1 – 4 Scale - 4 = exemplary • LMS - Score 2: Access to grade level standards instruction (not all students are receiving grade level standards instruction) • LMS - Score 2: Standards-based grading policies and procedures (parents should continuously be made aware of how their children are progressing in achieving the standards)

  7. Grade 8 Objectives • Increase African American students’ scores from 37.5% to 79% • Increase Low-Income students’ scores from 46.2% to 79% • Increase Special Education students’ scores from 9.52% to 79% • … of students meeting or exceeding the standards as measured by the DSTP

  8. The Literature says…. • All students need access to knowledge and skills described in the standards. • Leaders must determine how to optimize Curriculum and Instruction. • Effective PD is critical. • Time must be well organized, carefully structured, purposefully directed, and focused on content and/or pedagogy.
