  2. Clothing Renaissance clothing was, to say the least, extravagant. Clothing of this time was a way to show the separation of society’s classes. For the rich, it consisted of many layers and rich fabrics such as fur, brocade and velvet and jewel tone colors in shades of purple, blue, red, green and gold. For the lower classes colors were dull, shades of grey, black and brown and materials were simple. If someone could afford clothing above their status in society they could be accepted by the upper class by simply wearing the right clothes. Eventually, the royalty (scared of losing their place in society) created laws to regulate who could purchase certain clothing and how much they could spend.

  3. Occupations Here are some examples of occupations in the Renaissance • Baker: The baker made all the bread and pastries for the village. Also, if the baker could cook very well then s/he could cook for the king which was a great honor. • Jeweler: The jeweler had a high position in class because they were the people who knew all the stones and gems and what their prices were. Unfortunately, many jewelers were dishonest and gave the wrong price and made more money. • Spy: The spy usually spied on other countries that the king wanted. They usually spied on other countries at times of war or if the other country had something that the king didn't. • Shoe Maker: The shoe maker was known as the Cobbler. During this time, leather boots were popular footwear. Leather was expensive so mainly the nobility and aristocrats wore this footwear. Shoe makers were middle class because their work was hard but they did make pretty good money.

  4. Travel • Travel was incredibly complicated during the renaissance because there weren’t any cars and many poor people could only afford to go by foot. Furthermore, the roads were barely a bit of rock, nothing was paved like we have now days. • Common vehicles that were used for transportation included: horses, pack mules, wagons, and for the rich and wealthy, coaches. But still the most common way to get around was by foot because it wasn’t expensive but it was extremely complicated.

  5. Medicine • Medicine was not very popular but the Renaissance stimulated medical practice just as it did for other areas such as art, science and music. • Surgery was performed by Barber-Surgeon who used the same instruments to perform surgery as to cut hair. • Many began to research Anatomy. These discoveries proved that many errors had occurred for many centuries.
