  3. 4 Stages of Plot Development • Set-up • Complicating action • Development • Climax and Resolution

  4. Set-up to Complicating Action • The set-up is when Indy goes to Nepal and talks to Marion in to helping him find the Ark. Then goes to Indy looking for the Ark with the writing on the necklace.

  5. Complicating Action to Development • From using the writing on the necklace they find the Ark. Then the Nazis take the Ark from Indy.

  6. Development to Climax and Resolution • Indy gets the Ark back then the Nazi take it again. Then it goes to were Indy and Marion are tied up and the Nazis open the Ark and have the spirits go around them.

  7. Dangling Cause • Dangling Cause are things like lines, images, actions, that are shown early in the film that then become important later in the film.

  8. Example 1 • A scene in the beginning were Indy is getting in to the plane. He say “I Hate Snakes.” Later in the movie the Ark is in a pit of snakes.

  9. Example 2 • A scene were Rene takes some thing in the beginning of the movie then later takes the Ark from Indy.

  10. Example 3 • When Indy is telling the men about the Ark and the light coming from it, says “Light of God or something.” Then later the light coming out of the Ark.

  11. Motifs • A motif is a repeated idea, image, pattern thought the film that helps reveal the theme.

  12. The Color Red • The color red goes in an out of scenes. Like when Marion is wearing red pants with a white shirt that has red on it, or the Nazi flags, or the sash of the big sword guy.

  13. Music Motif Indys Theme • Indys theme plays when he is doing something adventures like swing from a rope.

  14. Music Motif Ark • The Arks theme plays when it is talked about or on screen. Like when Indy and his friend pull it out of the box.

  15. Conclusion • In conclusion you can find the 4 stages, dangling cause ,and motifs in the movie Riders of the Lost Ark.
