  2. What is a resume? • One of the most important tools when you are looking for a job • Short, point-form document that you give to employers that tells them about yourself • A variety of types exist

  3. Parts of a Resume • Personal Information (phone number, email) • Education • Skills and Experience • References

  4. Tips for Creating an Effective Resume • Tailor your resume to the specific job you are applying for • Divide it into sections (with headers) • Proofread!! • Make it presentable (font, formatting) • Keep it concise

Objective • Convince employer that you are interested in that specific job (mention the job and company if known) • “Obtain a position at XYZ Company where I can maximize my management skills, quality assurance, program development, and training experience.” • “To secure a position”, “To obtain a position” • “To obtain a position that will enable me to use my strong organizational skills, educational background, and ability to work well with people.”

  9. Education and Training • Not very extensive at this point in your life • List FHCI (Currently attending FHCI) • In the future, you will include college courses, and any other training you have (CPR, etc.) • For now, list your school, and any courses that you think would relate to the job

  10. Work Experience • List the name of the employer, the dates you have worked there, and the title of your job McDonalds January 2012 - Present Burger Flipper • Responsible for operating the spatula to flip burgers

  11. References • Try to pick people that are not related to you • Teachers are a good reference • Previous employers • Family friends
