Mrs. Hall's 3rd Grade Newsletter: October 15-19, 2012

In this week's newsletter, we are reviewing important skills in reading, including sequence, summarizing, and character analysis. In math, we will continue with Topic 2: Number Sense, focusing on addition and subtraction. Our writing focus is on crafting personal narratives, so please encourage your child to write back to you in their Friday journal. We are also studying the human body in science. Important reminders: No spelling test this week, and be prepared for the DOL test on October 19th. Report cards will be issued on October 18th, and book orders are due by October 31st. Don’t forget about Western Dress-up Day!

Skills that have been covered are sequence, summarizing, visualizing, reality and fantasy, character, setting, guide words, context clues, and word structure. Math:We will continue Topic 2 – Number Sense: Addition and Subtraction this week. We will also continue practicing addition and subtraction facts. Language/Writing: We are reviewing sentences in language this week. Our writing focus will be on writing a personal narrative. Don’t forget to write back to your child in his/her Friday journal. Science: We will continue our study of the human body in science this week. SPELLING WORDS REMINDERS There will not be a spelling test this week. We WILL still be having a DOL test on Friday. October 19th – Report Cards October 18th – Book Orders Due October 31st – Western Dress-up Day
