Exploring the Impact of Water Depth on Wave Frequency, Velocity, and Caustic Networks

DESCRIPTION

This study investigates the interrelationship between wave frequency, velocity, and wavelength, specifically analyzing how water depth influences caustic networks. Through experimentation, we hypothesize that wave velocity remains consistent across varying frequencies and depths, while wavelength decreases with increased frequency. Our findings reveal that water depth significantly affects the caustic patterns, with the distance between light and dark areas enlarging at greater depths. Future experiments should incorporate additional depths to refine the coefficient-depth correlation and improve accuracy.

  2. Background Theory Caustic Borders

  3. Aim Variables • Depth of water, frequency of waves, wavelength of waves, velocity of waves. To establish a relationship between the frequency, velocity and wavelength of waves and their caustic networks, and whether depth affects the projection of caustic networks.

  4. Hypothesis Apparatus The velocity of the waves will stay the same regardless of frequency and depth and the wavelength becomes smaller as the frequency becomes larger.

  7. Analysis

  8. Analysis (cont.) Major source of error: reliability of the viabrator’s frequency reading.

  9. Conclusion the depth had a major affect on the caustic networks; the distance between the light and dark areas increased with the depth of water. An improvement to the experiment that could be made is to test more depths to establish a concrete equation for the coefficient-depth relation. Amplitude.
