1. Developing quality learning resources Workshop for WSI CGVE / ABE teachers V.10420.02.2006 Carol Walsh

2. Outline • steps involved in developing content for new learning resources • ensuring the development of learning resources follows current learning design principles • using templates and tools during the content development phase Presentation name v.100

3. How does CLI develop quality learning resources? • Once the analysis phase is complete, the broad steps involved in developing new learning resources include: • develop the concept and learning design documentation (Flowcharts, storyboards) • create the new content: • identify content developers (writers, reviewers, editors, video producers, scriptwriters) • plan for the content development (instructional plans, script outlines, contextual information for writers) • provide guidance and support for content developers (style guides, writer guides, models) • use templates to ensure consistency of approach (eg, include details on concept, format, layout, inclusion of graphics, etc) • publish or put together the product (learning resource) • test that the product conforms to all specifications • evaluate the learning resource Presentation name v.100

4. Ensuring the quality of learning design • There are a range of resources to assist those new to learning design of resources. • Australian Flexible Learning Framework http://designing.flexiblelearning.net.au/index.htm • Commonwealth funded, higher education focus http://www.learningdesigns.uow.edu.au/ • Instructional strategies online http://olc.spsd.sk.ca/DE/PD/instr/index.html Presentation name v.100

5. Using templates and tools • CLI develops and adapts templates to develop learning resources: • Writer templates (Word documents in preformatted style) Basic word: • Stock and Station Agent’s Licence writer’s template • Stock and Station Agent’s Licence topic Interactive: • Frontline Management Toolbox writer’s template • Frontline Management website Presentation name v.100

6. Learning Activity Wizards (LAW) • CLI has developed flash activity wizards that can be used to create interactive activities within resources. • Flash activity templates (LAW) • ARED (Applications for Rapid E-learning Development) are produced by the Australian Flexible Learning Framework) Presentation name v.100

7. Drag-n-drop text to image Presentation name v.100

8. Quiz Presentation name v.100

9. Sequencing Presentation name v.100

10. Apply control measures to a scene Presentation name v.100

11. Developing quality learning resources • Developing quality learning resources involves: • an awareness of current approaches to learning design • developing systems and processes that ensure learning resources meet quality standards • Using templates allows CLI and teachers to: • ensure consistency across a range of learning resources • customise activities to suit the needs of the target users • update content when necessary Presentation name v.100
