Classifying Triangles Instructions The following activity is designed to use virtual manipulatives to reinforce terminologies and definitions taught in Classification of Triangles. Students will be taught to identify and define acute, right and obtuse angles. They will also be introduced to scalene, isosceles, and equilateral triangles. I choose this activity because the activity Gizmos will provide the students with an easy, flexible and fun way to explore and identify the differences and similarities found in triangles. This activity also supports chapter 4-1 in the Glencoe Geometry text book which deals with the classification of triangles
Objectives Upon completion of this lesson, students will: • identify triangles as acute, obtuse or right • identify triangles as equilateral, isosceles, or scalene
Pre-requisite Student must be able to: • perform basic mouse manipulations such as point, click and drag. • use a browser, such as Netscape, for experimenting with the activities.
Requirements Students will need: • Access to a browser • pencil and paper • Copies of supplemental materials for the activities:
Monitoring and Assessment There are only two computers in the classroom. Therefore, I will use an overhead projector to demonstrate to students how to use the computer applets to complete the activity sheet.Students will work in groups of two or three in order to allow everyone to have access to the computers. I will monitor the room for questions and to be sure that the students are on the correct website.
