Opportunity and Challenge ➢ Why was it a success? a) A unified strong political will The EPA in parallel with the political agreement is one of the most important components of the growth strategy by Prime Minister ABE, in his three pronged economic policies, the ABENOMICS. b) Japan and Europe seek for growth and enhanced competitiveness through the EPA/FTA. c) Supports from all Japan and all Europe

Opportunity and Challenge ➢ A possible future perspective of the EPA/FTA negotiation a) How long will it take to conclude the negotiation ? b) What would be the most difficult issues and what would be the most important achievements? Japan and the EU occupy more than 30 % of the world GDP and nearly 40 % of the world trade…

  6. 3. A way ahead ➢ Will all the roads of EPA/FTAs will lead to the World Trade Organization in Geneva? Yes, but with some conditions... a) Japan EU EPA/ FTA b) WTO

  7. 4. Conclusion ➢ The earlier the negotiation will be over, the better both sides will be able to address the prolonged economic difficulties.
