Petit Jurors - criminal or civil. A criminal trial will involve a felony (usually), civil is a lawsuit 12 jurors in a criminal case 8 in most civil cases (and some municipal courts). An alternate juror (or 2) will be seated also Two Types of Juries
Grand Jurors - hear evidence about crimes and decide whether or not a person should be indicted for committing a crime. The grand jury does not decide guilt or innocence Grand jury service is 2 months unless otherwise extended. The grand jury meets once a week Two Types of Juries
Juror Eligibility *Voter Registration vs. Driver’s License
Juror Eligibility • a citizen of the United States • you must be at least 18 years of age • a resident of the state and county in which you are called to serve • Not served on a jury “recently” • Qualified under the Constitution to vote • You must also be able to read and write • Not a felon • Not under accusation of any felony or misdemeanor theft
Exemptions? • 70+ • Young Child needs supervision • HS student • College Student • Member of Legislative Branch • Deployed Military out of your home county • You have served on a jury in the past 24 mos. (???)

F.Y.I. -- Compensation • In Greene County - $10.00/day for appearing. • If you are seated - $15.00/day. • After ten days, $20.00/day. (rare) • Grand jurors are paid $15.00 per day for each day of service. • Federal Juries $40/Day
