  3. Web Enhancement • A way to augment your course and make it • More appealing, and • Student friendly • Term often thought of in conjunction with web gaming

  4. Allowed Gamers to Connect to the Web for Additional Game Exciting Options During Play

  5. Use in education • Augments place based courses. • Allows faculty to place links in documents that offer students access to information on the web for additional learning support. • Augments multiple learning styles (visual/auditory). • Offers 24-7 access to course information.

  6. Where do I start?

  7. Overcome your fear • There is very little you can do to a computer that will make it explode or catch fire! • WebCT requires several selections/clicks to accomplish tasks. http://www.artie.com/gif-anim.htm

  8. Commit to a Course • Decide which course you will have up by next semester.

  9. Attend an Introductory Class • You won’t be able to get a shell set up for your course without meeting this ITD requirement. • http://www.mtsu.edu/~oitacad/itc/webctinfo.html

  10. You can request a shell with your tentative attendance date. Go ahead and complete the shell request form when you sign up for the class. This way you won’t forget! http://www.mtsu.edu/createwebct/ Course shells must be requested each semester.

  11. Open Pipeline

  12. Select the red edit button next to the course set up in WebCT.

  13. Campus Pipeline is default. Select radio button for page to open in WebCT course front page.

  16. If you are just working in your courses, it is helpful to close Pipeline. This will not close your course. This way Pipeline will not timeout and increase your frustration as a first time user.

  17. What do you have in the course that could go online now. • MS Word Files

  18. You need to upload your files first. Control Panel Manage Files

  19. Now you can create a link in WebCT

  20. Nothing to go up? Don’t worry. You can fill in a template online.

  21. You need to add a link to the Template for the course. Control Panel Add Page or Tool Syllabus

  22. Now available to work as a link.

  23. Update all areas. Just click a radio button and select edit.

  24. Fill in the template and Update.

  25. Click the View tab to see the Student View. Voila!!

  26. You can add a URL for student information.

  28. Remember! • After working in your course, make sure your updates are made available to students. • Update • Student • View

  29. Save a Copy of Your Hard Work for the Next Semester. • Create course Back-up

  31. Create Back-up and Download to Your computer • Don’t forget which course is which!! The Filename will not tell you.

  32. The Fun Side of Web Enhancement Adding the unexpected

  33. To maintain your sanity…you don’t have to do it all at one time. • Add a little each semester. • Learn one new component each semester. The basic course comes with several essential components. Other things like URLs, My Grades, etc. are added components. • Online quizzes are helpful for student remediation.

  34. Conclusion • Web-enhancement can serve as a transitioning technique, which would allow gradual introduction to software applications throughout the semester for both students and faculty. Access to faculty and course materials can be facilitated with this technological intervention. Through web-enhancement, students can take an active role in their learning. Web-enhancement can facilitate integration of technology competencies into curricula.
