  2. Worldliness TV, Movies, Music The Devil is cunning and is winning the battle with many Christians in the realm of TV, Movies, & Music The Devil is getting people to preoccupy their minds with hours of television and movie watching – taking them away from God’s Word!

TV and Movies - the Rating System • 1930’s to 1960 – a very strict TV code • Brutal killings could not be shown in detail • Crime could not be glamorized • Obscenity forbidden • Reference to deity was not to be irreverent • Nudity was not permitted • Sanctity of marriage and the home was to be upheld • If this was still practiced – there would be no need for the following….

TV and Movies - the Rating System • Current Ratings: • G – General • PG – Parental Guidance • PG13 – Under age 13 not allowed w/o an adult • R – Restricted (under 17 must have a parent) • X – No one under 17 permitted • MOST all movies today are filled with bad language, sex scenes and terrible violence

  6. TV and Movies Influence Us! • Media has great power in reaching millions of people • Television is the most powerful • Businesses pay millions to advertise • WHY? • Because billions watch – a great influence! How much time do you spend watching TV and movies?

TV and Movies Influence Us! • Statistics: • Average Home • 98% of homes have at least one TV (2-3 in most) • TV on 49.5 hours each week (7 hrs per day) • Children • Watch 32 hours of TV each week (5 hours daily) • One fourth of waking hours are watching TV • Hear more than 500 commercials per week • Movies • 50 million attend movies each week • Only 4% in the movie business attend any worship
