The ancient Romans made groundbreaking contributions that shaped our world, including the invention of concrete, the establishment of extensive road networks, and the development of Latin, the root of many modern languages. The use of concrete allowed for the construction of durable structures, while their sophisticated roads facilitated trade and communication across the empire. Additionally, the Latin language transformed into a foundation for Romance languages like Spanish and French. Without these Roman advancements, our architecture, infrastructure, and communication would be vastly different today.

  2. Technology • The ancient Romans built things to last. Their advances in technology include: • Invention of concrete • Roman roads • Roman arches • Aqueducts.

  3. Medicine • Huge public health programs including welfare programs for the poor

  4. Language • Roman language (Latin), the root of all the romance languages including: • English • French • Spanish

  5. Religion • The Catholic Faith

  6. Roman Law/Politics • Law that states a person is innocent until proven guilty • Propaganda campaigns • Emperor's picture on coins, to remind everyone who was in charge of the empire

  7. Clothing • Socks worn by both women and men. • Shoes • hobnailed shoe that made such a scary racket when worn by the common soldier • Left and right footed shoes, which made wearing any shoes a lot more comfortable.
