What is Foursquare • Foursquare is a location-based social networking service, mostly used on smart phones. • The idea is that people "check-in" to venues they're at -which lets users keep track of where their friends are hanging out. • It can be seen as a game where users earn points for their activity and unlock "badges.“ • And if you check-in the most to a venue, you become the "mayor.“

  5. Marketing Practices • In the foursquare application under the places tab, it will give you deals so you can check out all the great specials nearby you!! • The Scholastic Store If you check in at the store, using foursquare you will receive 20% off!

  6. Other Places using foursquare for discounts • Ann Taylor Loft • The mayor gets 25% off • After a customer checks in 5 times they receive 15% off • Chili’s Grill and Bar • Check in and receive a free Order of chips and salsa!

  7. Pros/ Cons of Foursquare • Pros • Provides consumer engagements with the brand • Promotions and specials • Can be a great form WOM • Cons • Privacy Issue • Fraudulent check-ins • If your friends have to connected to Facebook, you can get spammed with it, like other Facebook games.
