Art Sometimes the Iroquois wore corn husks masks and painted their faces for art Iroquois had a group of men called the False Society False Society wore frightening masks made of wood All masks are sacred to the Iroquois no matter what the size or age is Masks aren't for everyone to see because they're so sacred When they put on their masks they thought they got special powers

Villages Were known as the 6 nations the Cayga, Mohawk, Onedia, Onodaga, Seneca, and Tuscarora-other name is 6 nations-people of longhouse In a village they had 2 or more long houses Villages were built by streams but then built them on hilltops for protection from invading tribes Village moved every 10-15 years because crops didn't grow anymore Farming determined the way they lived Woman owned long houses, controlled land, and chose the chief The Iroquois didn't call them selves Iroquois because it was an insult to another tribe they called themselves the 6 nations

  8. Time Frame There time frame was 1000 AD to 1300 AD

  9. Warriors There leader was Logan The name of Logan probably resulted from the early friendship with William Penn's secretary, James Logan. Warriors usually had a Mohawk with a feather in their hair

  10. Population The approx. population in 1600 - probably less than 20,000 for all five tribes Then by 1650 and, combined with warfare, cut their population to about half of its original number They reached their maximum number in 1660, about 25,000 80,000 in the U.S., 45,000 in Canada

Worshiping Mainly worshiped Ra the sun god but, only made offerings to the sun and sky god The Iroquois would take the leg of a deer or a bear or another animal, rub it with fat and throw it into the fire while praying to their gods hoping that they'll except there offer Iroquois used feasts and dancing to worship also Did not make human sacrifices Feasts for religious purposes were constantly being given for health, to restore charm, etc, ceremonies entertained the Iroquois

  12. Language Iroquois men usually spoke Mohawk, this was the language spoken at Great Council and religious festivals Women usually learned Mohawk too Wisk meant 5 and Ethnical meant moon in Mohawk
