  1. Iroquois PeopleoftheEasternWoodlands

  2. ToolsandWeapons • The Iroquois had many weapons and tools for hunting, battles, and other tools. • They use spears and war clubs for battle against other clans.

  3. Homes • The longhouse was the center of Iroquois life. Longhouses were long, narrow building with arched roofs. Low porches covered the doorway, which were located at both ends of the longhouse. To build a longhouse, men tied long-wooden poles together to form arches.

  4. Religion was an important part of traditional Iroquois life. Religion beliefs varied from nation to nation. The Iroquois belied that everything around them had a spirit. These spirits controlled the weather, crops, and animals. Most Iroquois believed in a powerful creator names the great sprit. The Iroquois believed the Great Spirit had an evil twin brother who caused suffering. Religion

  5. The Iroquois held six big festivals each year. Each festival lasted several days. During these festivals music was made by shaking rattles and beating drums. Sometimes they wore corn husks masks or painted their faces to frighten away the evil spirits. SocialOrganization

  6. Habitat • The Iroquois lived in the eastern woodlands. • Around the great lakes area and along the St. Lawrence river in the United States and Canada.

  7. Government • The iroquois village leader was the chief. • The chief usually was under the elders who were the older and wiser women .

Clothing • The Iroquois clothing was mainly made of animal hide. • They used bone needles to sew together their clothes • Sinew was used for thread • Sinew is the tendons of animals • They decorated their clothes with porcupine quills and shell beads, some of the designs they made are tribe symbols

  9. Subsistence • The Iroquois mostly hunted their food • They also had farming for their food • Foods they grew were beans, corn, and squash, pumpkins, melons, wild rice • The animals they hunted for food were black bears, elk, deer, moose, wolves, fish, birds, and rabbits.

  10. CulturalArtifacts The Iroquois cultural artifacts were mainly their Art One thing they made was a wampum which is a belt made of beads They also had a lot of jewelry as decorations or artifacts
