  4. 1. Technology • Rapid changes occurring in technology, health care technology

  5. 2. Disease Trajectories • Changes in disease patterns

  6. 3. Drastic Scarcity of Resources • Consider: • food, • clean water, • productive land, dwindling rain forests fostering unique species of fauna and flora, • limited or extinct species of fish and mammals

  7. 4. Complexity in Every Arena of Life • work load • multiple roles • escalating availability & short-life of useful knowledge • necessity for multiple changes within one’s personal life • information explosion • more pluralistic society

  8. Four Areas NOT Likely to Change 1. Patriarchal Dominance 2. Oppression 3. Human Demand for Freedom & Improved Quality of Life 4. Desire for Connection & Meaning

  9. 1. Patriarchal Dominance • Consider the conceptualizations: • the ‘glass ceiling’ women in business encounter • male dominance in the health care system • ask yourself, “what is considered male work?”, “what is considered female work?”

  10. 2. Oppression • A system of dominance-submission • doers and thinkers • us and them • me against the world
