The renal system, also known as the urinary system, is essential for urine passage, storage, and excretion. This intricate organ system includes bean-shaped kidneys that filter approximately 1,700 quarts of blood daily to create urine. Ureters, about 6-7 inches long, transport the urine from the kidneys to the bladder, a muscular organ that stores urine until disposal. The urethra is the final passage through which urine is excreted from the body. This overview covers the basic anatomy and functionality of the renal system.
