  1. Integration of Design Guide P354 and FloorVibe in the RAM Structural System Andrew Miller BEng CEng MIStructE

  2. Vibration Analysis and Design Guide P354 SCI Publication 076 “Design Guide on the vibration of floors”, (1989) was withdrawn and replaced by SCI Publication P354 “Design of Floors for Vibration: A New approach” (2007). This new publication has been written to allow engineers to determine and design for the vibration response of steel floors. P354 is now a fundamental design guide for structural engineers designing steel structures throughout the UK and Ireland.

  3. RAM Structural System Based on the requirements of P354, those bays in the floor framing that have the potential for unfavorable vibration characteristics are clearly identified and automatically highlighted in the RAM Steel Beam module. By utilising this approach the engineer’s design time is greatly reduced by avoiding unnecessary checks on satisfactory bays.

  4. FloorVibe When a bay is selected in the RAM Steel Beam module, FloorVibe is launched, with the pertinent geometry and properties automatically transferred from the RAM Structural System to the seamlessly integrated FloorVibe program. The FloorVibe program is comprehensively based on the requirements of Design Guide P354. FloorVibe has been developed by Dr. Thomas Murray, one of the world’s most widely respected authorities in the field of floor vibration.

  5. FloorVibe Options FloorVibe provides options for investigating vibration based on the end usage of the building In addition, based on the end usage, FloorVibe automatically populates, in accordance with P354, entry dialogue boxes for assessment of vibration

  6. FloorVibe and the RAM Structural System FloorVibe provides the only comprehensive analysis of the vibration characteristics of a floor system based on SCI Publication P354. If a framing configuration is deemed unacceptable, alternatives can quickly and easily be investigated until an acceptable solution is derived. The engineer can then implement these changes into the RAM Structural System model for full drawing generation. FloorVibe and the RAM Structural System together provide an invaluable and powerful tool for the investigation of floor vibration and response.
