  2. subterranean – adj.- Situated or operating beneath the earth’s surface; underground.

  3. larvae – n. pl.- The newly hatched, wingless, often wormlike form of many insects before metamorphosis.

  4. metamorphosis –n. pl.- A transformation, as if by magic or sorcery. A marked change in appearance, character, condition, or function.

  5. trepidation– n. – A state of alarm or dread; apprehension. An involuntary trembling.

  6. industrious – adj.– Assiduous in work or study; diligent. Skillful, clever.

  7. nocturnal – adj. - Of, relating to, or occurring in the night.

  8. insecticide – n.- A chemical substance used to kill insects.

  9. iridescent– n. – Producing a display of lustrous rainbow like colors. Brilliant, lustrous, or colorful in effect or appearance.

  10. indigenous – adj.- Originating and living or occurring naturally in an area or environment.

  11. quarantine – n. - A period of time during which a vehicle, person, or material suspected of carrying a contagious disease is detained at a port of entry under enforced isolation to prevent disease from entering a country.

  12. nemesis– n. - A source of harm or ruin. Retributive justice in its execution or outcome. An opponent that cannot be beaten or overcome.
