  1. Literacy in the Classroom

  2. The who: Reading group Prior knowledge The children had little knowledge or no experience with some or all of the programmes and sites that I introduced to them.

  3. The What and the Why Integration of ICT skills and Literacy • Class Blog, Online Herald, PowerPoint, Movie maker and Aviary. • Introduce new skills using ICT. Present a literacy lesson that challenged their current understanding and extend their current thinking.

  4. I selected a current article from the Herald Online. I chose the article because all of the children had heard of the earthquake and the newspaper had video footage and photo links. The process

  5. The link to the article was through the class Blog. Children watched the video link and discussed what they saw.

  6. They then selected the picture that best represented the effects from the Earthquake. They copied the photos, placed these into a PowerPoint file, enlarged and saved.

  7. My part I promised the group that I would make the music. For this I used Aviary. I had never used this programme before and it was pretty simple as long as you have around 30 minutes to play around.

  8. Movie Maker • This was a team effort since neither the children nor myself had used this before. • Little bits to note: • Power Point files – When saving –presentation. • Pick up and drop into Movie maker. • Import music into Power Point from Aviary. • Follow the blue headings.
