  7. What is Economics? • Economists aim to explain choices that are made by firms, governments, individuals • Example: Expansion of EU in May 2004 • How can firms benefit from EU expansion? New export markets, easier access to cheap labor, etc. • What is the impact of EU expansion on individuals? As workers? As investors? • What policies should the government or central bank in Estonia follow if it will join the euro in 2009? • Example: Financial Crises
